Carmel, CA

The first Japanese Gardens were natural spots that were considered holy places. The way into a garden space conveys a message. It gives a sense of what will be found upon entry. Every entry signifies a transition from one physical, and mental space, to another. As one walks under and through a portal, a different experience awaits the visitor. (All the fences and gates in the pictures found on this website were designed and built by Jim Grandy, The Bamboo Man, Battle Ground, WA)
