The DNA of Teams

What level of performance you are experiencing from the teams you are leading, or participating in as a member?  Many people criticize teams for their inefficiencies and ineffectiveness.  These same people experience frustration, annoyance, and disappointment as payment for their time and involvement.  Since there are things you can do to increase efficiencies and effectiveness, you deserve the team(s) that you are a member.
Whether you lead or are simply a team member, you influence the team environment in positive and/or negative ways.  In order to make a positive contribution it is necessary to understand the key underlying structure that affect team success.  Three dynamic pairs of leverage points determine the value derived from team activity both internally and externally.

The three dynamic pairs of leverage points are:

Diversity and Direction: every team has a level of diversity in the way its members think and act that intersect with the direction in which the team is headed.

Norms and Network: behavior in every team is governed by a set of rules that are played out in a network of interrelationships (nodes) and communications (connections).

Accountability and Accomplishments: individual account-ability, coupled with accountability for the team plays out over time in a progression of success and failure that describes the team’s track record of accomplishments.

Topics covered in this workshop include:

  • There is a “right” and “wrong” to diversity
  • Uncovering a direction that unifies
  • Implementing norms that work for the team
  • Key roles to strengthen the team’s network
  • Teambuilding without wasting time
