Practical Skills for Influencing Others

One of the most trusted frameworks employed in the best-managed companies around the world is the “Situational Leadership™ model” developed by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard at The Center For Leadership Studies many years ago.  Leaders learn a practical framework to determine when and how to provide direction and support to influence the behavior of others.  The essence of this workshop is helping people chose when it is right to lead and when it is right to follow (let others lead).
Additionally, as a product of change, leaders have the responsibility for developing the ability and willingness of others to do new tasks.  This framework serves as a guide to speeding up the readiness of others to perform needed tasks.

The essential components of the “situational leadership™” model are:

Leadership Style: made up of direction (defining, explaining, showing, clarifying, critiquing) and support (asking, listening, encouraging, reinforcing, rewarding)

Task-Specific Readiness: made up of ability (knowledge, skill, and clarity on priorities) and willingness (desire, confidence, and incentive)

Topics covered in this workshop include:

  • How to assess a leadership situation using “task-specific” readiness
  • Understanding when to use direction and support situationally
  • Empowering others by an effective process leading to delegation
  • Using one’s bases of power from a situational perspective
  • Using the model on ourselves
